Making Soy Candles is a blast!

Making candles of soy wax is easy. Soy wax melts at about 110 deg F which makes it a quite bit safer that regular paraffin based candle wax.

The soy kits we use come in a microwave safe container and if you really watch your time in the microwave oven (about 3 minutes depenting on the oven) the wax will be no more than 120 deg F. At this point it will be mostly melted into a liquid with just a bit of solid wax left. Be patient and wait about 10 minutes and the rest will be melted while the container sets on your counter or table.

We have found that if you wait a total of about 45 minutes the wax will be about 110 deg F and it is then cool enough to pour without the worry of the soy wax burning you if you slop just a bit.

This also makes the soy candle wax cool and set up in your container much quicker. Complete cool-off time can be another 45 minutes or so.

What we have also found that if you want to create a layered candle such as a dual or triple scented candle you will want to pour the wax at about 110 deg F when you are pouring on top of an alrealy completely cooled layer. This will ensure that new newly purled lay of soy wax does not melt into the lower layer. We have been very successful with this method of making several triple scented soy wax candles right in our kitchen.

You should try making soy wax candles for yourself. It is a Blast! An then you get to burn them and smell the wonderful scents.
